This month, Swing Therapeutics presented data from a real-world trial of Stanza, an FDA-cleared digital behavioral therapy for treatment of fibromyalgia symptoms, at the 2023 annual meeting of Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
The analysis of the ongoing trial data (108 patients) supports Stanza’s clinically meaningful benefit in addressing unmet needs for fibromyalgia patients, specifically, showing the treatment’s effectiveness on symptoms that most limit patient quality of life (QoL).
After using the smartphone-based treatment, which provides Acceptance of Commitment Therapy and additional cognitive behavioral therapy-based interventions, 87% of participants improved in at least one QoL-limiting symptom. 3x patients reported QoL satisfaction after the treatment.
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic widespread pain syndrome that is often accompanied by additional symptoms. In this study, the top 5 most QoL-limiting symptoms identified by patients pre-treatment were (ranked by % patients reporting):
- Fatigue (76%)
- Cognitive function (62%)
- Pain interference (58%)
- Physical function (46%)
- Pain intensity (45%)
Improvement in each symptom at Stanza treatment at month 3 was assessed using the corresponding clinical measure(s) collected through: Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC), Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ-R), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II), or Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7).
The results showed most patients reduced their QoL-limiting symptoms with treatment, evidenced by high % of patients reporting improvement at month 3:
- 75% in sleep interference
- 67% in cognitive function
- 73% in pain interference
- 87% in physical function
- 54% in pain intensity
Swing Therapeutics also presented two additional studies at the same conference on its accumulated data from 3 clinical trials (2 RCTs and 1 real-world study), showing Stanza’s effectiveness in reducing fibromyalgia severity and improving sleep/fatigue outcomes.
