Stanza provides Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that is a non-pharmacological, behavioral therapy for fibromyalgia and other centralized pain conditions.
Although CBT and ACT are first-line treatments for fibromyalgia, access is limited due to lack of trained providers, lack of referral pathways, and high cost.
Stanza, a prescription digital therapeutic, brings ACT to the point-of-care, expanding access to the treatment for the fibromyalgia population.
What is a prescription digital therapeutic?
A prescription digital therapeutic is an emerging type of therapy that uses software to deliver medical treatment, management or prevention. They are available by prescription only, as they are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and required to demonstrate safety and efficacy in randomized clinical trials.
What is centralized pain?
Unlike with acute pain, which is initiated by the peripheral nervous system, chronic pain conditions like fibromyalgia derive from changes in how the central nervous system processes pain. In these conditions, the central nervous system becomes activated and hypersensitive, even when there is no peripheral injury. Stanza uses clinically-tested techniques to retrain the brain and change the relationship with pain.
Why behavioral therapy?
Providers have limited options when it comes to treating fibromyalgia. Current FDA-approved medications have limited efficacy, with significant adverse effects and high discontinuation rates.¹ Stanza uses guideline-directed behavioral therapy with no observed side effects. 9 out of 10 patients prefer using Stanza to medications alone.

What is ACT?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). ACT teaches acceptance and mindfulness strategies for uncontrollable symptoms, together with commitment and behavior change strategies to prevent symptom flares, increase quality of life, and improve physical and emotional functioning. ACT guides people to change their expectations from the elimination of pain to managing and living as well as possible with their pain.
What is CBT?
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps people become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so they can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them more effectively. CBT helps people learn how to better manage stressful life situations. CBT often includes learning and practicing techniques such as relaxation, coping, resilience, stress management, and assertiveness.
How should Stanza be used?
Stanza is intended to be used five to seven days per week, for approximately 15 to 20 minutes a day, for a period of 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, Stanza can be used as needed.
